Where in Slovenia does lightning strike most frequently?
22. Jul, 2019Since Slovenia is located in the area where the impacts from the Adriatic Sea, the Alps and the continental climate accumulate to cause storm clouds, the western part of the country has the highest density of lightnings on a square meter in Europe on an annual level. The most frequent factors effecting the emergence of lightnings include the heated atmosphere, humidity concentration in the air, the quantity of condensation cores and geographic position. Therefore, most lightnings strike in summer (June, July and August) when there are most storms in Slovenia and the atmosphere is very warm. There are, in average, significantly less storms with lightnings in other seasons. The least lightnings occur in winter, from December to February.
