The Milan Vidmar Electric Power Research Institute among the winners of the smart grids project
5. Jul, 2023The Milan Vidmar Electric Power Research Institute has been awarded the Silver Runner-up Award for Excellence by the International Smart Grids Action Network (ISGAN) for its FutureFlow project. The project is unique in that, together with other partners in an international consortium coordinated by ELES, we have demonstrated through real-time pilot tests that small-scale renewable electricity generation units can be a reliable source of flexibility, helping system operators to ensure the balance of the electricity system and thus the security of electricity supply.
FutureFlow was a four-year (2016-2019) international research project involving 12 partners from eight European countries, including four system operators, research institutions, technology companies and two electricity traders. All companies are leaders in their field in terms of the technologies and services they offer to customers. The project value was estimated at EUR 13 million and was financed by the Horizon 2020 European Programme. FutureFlow is a key breakthrough for active participation of consumers in the most complex processes in electricity systems, reducing their electricity price, reducing countries' dependence on fossil fuels and lowering CO2 emissions.
The award confirms that EIMV is an important partner in the development and co-creation of an advanced electricity system.
