Sustainable development as a starting point for education, research and services
25. Nov, 2024The strategic energy conference »Synergy Potential in Education and Research«, which took place on 15 November 2024 at the University of Maribor, the EIMV and other experts highlighted key aspects of energy sector development and the role of education and research activities in sustainable development. The event highlighted the importance of experts, decision-makers and electricity stakeholders working together to develop solutions to the energy challenges posed by the green transition.
In his presentation »Sustainable development as a starting point for education, research and services«, Dr Rudi Vončina, Head of the Environment Department, highlighted the key challenges of the green transition, including the variability of energy production and consumption, geopolitical interests, and the need to unify energy policies at a supranational level. He also drew attention to the importance of expertise, effective change management and sustainable energy resource management, as already emphasised by the academic Prof. Dr. Milan Vidmar.
Participants at this first energy conference identified a number of opportunities for improvement, particularly in the areas of education and research, and the need for further reflection on how best to exploit these opportunities. In particular, arguments were raised on what content on energy markets and infrastructure should be included in university curricula to support innovation, development and ultimately project implementation.
