Phase-shift transformation at the ADST transformer station (400 kV), Abu Dhabi
8. Sep, 2020The EIMV successfully concluded the first phase of the international project, whose investor is TRANSCO from Abu Dhabi, for multinational corporation WSP. TRANSCO is a system operator of the transmission and distribution network in Abu Dhabi. The project envisages the installation of two phase-shift transformers that will limit excessive energy flows through the 400 kV ADST transformer station. On the basis of many analyses and extraordinary market demands, our colleague Mladen Iglič in cooperation with WSP prepared tender documentation and the required technical specifications, which will present the basis for bidders who manufacture phase-shift transformers (PST) to prepare demanding offers in accordance with the newest guidelines in this area. This project has a special feature, i.e. it involves two individual units 2 × 1000 MVA at 400 kV voltage level and ±30° regulation angle. The ADST transformer station is in GIS version, thus the phase-shift transformers will have cable connections at the source and at the load side. There are also extraordinary requirements for effective cooling (ONAN/ONAF/ODAF combination) and low noise, because the ADST transformer station is in immediate vicinity of a town. The second project phase envisages the technical and economic assessment of received offers and the proposal for selecting a supplier. The process will presumably be concluded by the end of 2020.
