Medium and high voltage cable testing with ACRF resonance method
21, Aug, 2019The EIMV has concluded the testing and installation of the measurement system that enables testing and measurements on medium voltage to 400 kV voltage cables. Testing comprises low voltage measurements, elevated voltage test (higher than operating voltage), partial discharge measurements and dielectric losses factor measurement as well as cable wrap test. It is important to execute the tests and measurements immediately after installation, because they present the basis for assessing the remaining life period of the cable system. This reduces the probability of unpredicted failures, where interventions are made in the cable route and the environment. By carrying out preventive maintenance that encompasses systematic use of test procedures and diagnostic methods for monitoring the condition of the main cable insulation, we provide the foundation for a timely and appropriate selection of maintenance measures. Periodical measurements are the basis for determining the condition of cable system insulation, and as such, it is a necessary part of the modern RCM or Reliability Centred Maintenance strategy and effective asset management.
