Cyber Security in the Electric Power Systems

4. Feb, 2025

On Thursday, 30 January 2025, we participated at CIGRE’s workshop on Cyber Security in the Electric Power Systems: New Frontiers.

Electric power systems are becoming increasingly digitalised and, as a consequence, more exposed and vulnerable to cyber threats. Based on the studies, experience and analyses of the researchers of the Electric Power System Control and Operation Department, Mag. Igor Podbelšek presented a lecture on managing cyber security risks in advanced measuring systems. He highlighted the specificities of these systems, the identified risks and made practical recommendations to make them more secure.

Speakers presented, practical experiences in detecting and defending against cyber-attacks. The event presented state-of-the-art approaches to protecting IT infrastructure, cyber threats faced by companies in the energy sector, the impact of cyber-attacks on power systems and the evolving regulatory landscape for cyber security of critical infrastructure.

We believe that the workshop has been successful in its mission and has contributed to increasing understanding of the issues, operational risks and the potential consequences of underestimating the subject field.
