10th RICOMET Conference co-organised by EIMV

12, Jun, 2024

Milan Vidmar Electric Power Research Institute co-organised the 10th RICOMET Conference, held in Ljubljana on 10-11 June 2024.
Participants discussed various societal aspects of ionising radiation-based technologies. The conference included a round table on small modular reactors, which are becoming quite interesting also for Slovenia. The discussion is part of the activities of the ECOSENS project, which addresses the economic and societal aspects of the future use of nuclear energy in the participating countries. The main achievements of the project so far were presented, as well as a summary of selected results from Work Package 1 on social research. This was followed by a panel discussion on "Public Participation in Decisions on Small Modular Reactors (SMR)". The panellists, representing policy makers, researchers and NGOs, discussed the challenges of this new technology and possible approaches that could be used to involve different stakeholders, including members of the general public.
Dr Nadja Železnik from the EIMV also participated at the round table and presented her experience on the siting of a radioactive waste repository in Slovenia.
